If you're ok with some creative liberty, it's probably a smoother experience. Very, very, very well-produced and well-written, though many of the lines are changed a bit. But there's a British dub as well, which I really like and should be a good alternative. English is solid, Japanese is better, but I recommend either. IMO the best English dub in Ghibli history. Neil Gaiman wrote the script, it's solid. The English dub is great for a first-time viewing, though. I've seen both and personally prefer Japanese. Disney kid-ified some aspects, but it's very well-acted.

Pom Poko - I recommend watching in Japanese. I have a real soft spot for the English version, Michael Keaton as the main character is lovely. They fixed some screw-ups which makes a great dub. English, if you have the access to the newest version. They aged up the characters a bit, which really fits, and the original composer added some new music. Either, but I'll recommend English for Patrick Stewert's badass performance alone.

(If you have a specific ghibli movie that is better subbed or dubbed please do tell!) Original voices may also be better and fit the character in question better than a dubbed voice would. I haven't watched alot of animes or shows subbed so I might not be used to it, and dubbed might let me appreciate the visuals more and I can be more immersed in the story.ĭubbed animes are known to often be very flawed, and sayings and ways of speech usually work better in the original language. Should I watch the movies subbed or dubbed in english. I've been wanting to watch alot of the Studio Ghibli movies lately because of quarantine and stuff but I just have a question.
